The IGOT is the School of Geography and Spatial Planning at the University of Lisbon, internationally recognized for its excellence and innovation in research and teaching. It contributes to the advancement of science and fosters the high-quality education and sense of responsibility in student formation and training, addressing global challenges." IGOT's mission is to promote high-quality undergraduate education (Bachelor's degrees in Geography and Planning and Territorial Management), and postgraduate education (various master's and doctoral programs, including courses in collaboration with other institutions at the University of Lisbon and other universities), and lifelong learning. IGOT also aims to develop activities of excellence in research, disseminate knowledge, and conduct studies with social impact. It emphasizes university extension in a framework of closer interaction between society and science in the fields of geography, territorial planning and management, development policies, territorial cohesion, urbanism, environment, resources and risks, as well as socio-spatial dynamics and organization. IGOT is a school organized into two areas (teaching and training, and research and development), including the Centre of Geographical Studies (CEG), the main and most prestigious R&D unit in the scientific field of geography in Portugal, with a strong international projection. CEG has recently integrated the Associated Laboratory Terra, supported by the Foundation for Science and Technology."
