Organisation profile

Organisation profile

According to its statutes, the Faculty of Psychology of the University of Lisbon (FPUL) is an institution of creation, transmission and diffusion of science, knowledge, technology and culture, governed by standards of excellence, rigour and innovation. It provides undergraduate and postgraduate training in several courses that confer the degree of graduate, master and doctor. The FPUL core mission is training and research in the field of psychology and the dissemination of psychology as a science and as a scientifically grounded intervention. In this context, FPUL seeks to promote an humanistic approach to psychological science and practice, based on training and research in which the scientific, technical and ethical aspects are also taken into account. FPUL trains psychologists to intervene with scientific rigour and a critical spirit in the basic and applied fields of health, education, the environment and work. Both in the field of research and intervention, FPUL guiding principles are today's major social challenges, ranging from creating healthy organisations to changing environmental behaviour, from combating the mental illnesses of the modern world to promoting well-being at school, and from combating over-indebtedness to promoting the balanced development of adolescents. It is also part of FPUL mission to provide the community with answers to its psychological needs, based on the best psychological science. The educational project is linked to FPUL's scientific project, and students are encouraged to participate in the research projects of teachers, most of them members of FPUL's Centro de Investigação em Ciência Psicológica (CICPSI) [Psychological Research Centre for Psychological Science].
